This was a fun-filled week.  We started writing journals, made cute apples, made helping hands for our social studies unit, I was the celebrity for the week, worked alongside our 5th grade buddies, and visited Mrs. Clemetson in the library.  I am starting to really feel comfortable and gettin' in a groove.  Since it is my first year I am feeling like I have a million things to do and definitely not enough time.  This week Mr. Kroeze was out of town, so I used that time to try and get ahead.

I love hearing my little kiddos walking in a line while singing or saying their Bible verse for the week.  I especially like when they ASK to say their verse.

I finally got the pictures up on my birthday wall!!!
I am also loving the manners.  They are definitely building each other up with not only bucket fillers, but with their actions throughout the day!  I LOVE it!  Pushing chairs in for others, excited when others try their best at something, and having fun showing Jesus' love!

Lastly, I needed to point out that the people I work with are definitely amazing and encouraging.  I am thankful for them!!!

So yesterday finished my first full week of being a first grade teacher.  I have to say I am getting the hang of it!

Earlier this week we created framed pictures of something our families love to do together.  They turned out very cute :)

The one thing that I LOVED yesterday was working on our heart project.  I got this fantastic idea from Mrs. Carroll, I will be posting some pics of some completed hearts soon.  These hearts are full of things they love or enjoy doing.  I am going to back them on a fun color and laminate!  This will be a writing helper, if they ever "have nothing to write about!"  LOVE!

The best part of this time was the worship!  Yes, that's right!  I turned on Christian contemporary and worship music, if they knew the song they were singing right along!  I even had Z raise his hand to share with me that the current song was from "his church" he was stoked!  This totally made my day!!!!

This week we also started our "Celebrity of the Week".  Our first one was Mrs. Fender, our classroom aid...whom I LOVE!  She is amazing!  This fun idea of creating stars at the end of each week also came from Mrs. Carroll.  So CUTE!!!

First Week...Check!

This week was definitely a new experience.  But I survived.  I am getting to know all of my kiddos and learning how to manage a first grade room.

Cute story...I asked the kiddos if they knew what happened on September 11th ten years ago...the two answers the stood out were: The Civil War and Jesus died on the cross.  I had to hold back the laughing out loud desire.

Question: when is the right/appropriate time to start using textbooks????

I absolutely love my behavior management!  I have taken and made the "How I Act" fit my personal style and needs.  I used the catalog idea I found out there in blog land (will post another time) and created a punch card...when they fill the punch card they get to pick something from our catalog!  The kiddos are all over it!

Now that the first week is over I need to plan for week 2!  Yeah, my plan book is blank :)  Wish me luck!

It has begun!

HOORAY!  I survived my very first day of first grade :)  I had a an amazing day.  Could not believe how cute these little kiddos are.  Some were shy, others were super excited, and they all were entering my class.  We got through our fun first day of school pictures with April (Pictured below), we discussed why manners are so very important, read "Have You Filled A Bucket Today" and colored our buckets (idea is out there, I found it through First Grade Parade), practiced walking in a line while singing some fun songs, completed our time capsules, and became familiar with our H.O.O.T Binders.  Such an amazing Day!!!  I can't wait until I get to use so many of the amazingly cute and creative ideas that I have found out here in Blogland!
April, our class mascot

Love these manners posters...found them online on one of the teacher store websites.
Here is a before the bucket picture.  The kiddos colored their buckets today.
Time Capsule Idea...LOVE!
