Busy!

The last two weeks have been so busy!  I am enjoying my Saturday morning, now afternoon, by doing nothing!  We have been jammed these last two weeks with fun activities, jog-a-thon incentives, and Red Ribbon Week.  Each day this week we dressed up!  Which also made for a crazy week!

These boys were practicing their memory verse together, PRECIOUS!!!
This noun activity was a great find from the teacher wife on tpt.  My kiddos have loved all the activities and seem to really understand what nouns are!

Next week will also be another crazy week!  Jog-A-Thon, field trip, and not to mention...HALLOWEEN!  Monday will be intense to say the least.

Some fun things from these past two weeks have been learning all about Noah and the Ark, playing fun games like math doubles, and making bird feeders to wrap up our bird chapter.

Have a great week, and a safe Halloween night!

Bats

Hello all!!!

Even though we had Monday off this week felt super long!  On Thursday we had a great night at Fresh and Easy.  We had a school fundraiser; I ran around to take pictures.  The kids loved the fact that the teachers were the ones bagging the groceries.  I love how close knit our school staff and families are.

Today our classroom highlight was making bats with our buddies.  Since we have been focused on mammals in science and our library time was put aside for an assembly, my reading buddy teacher and I decided on a project that the kids could do together.  BATS!!!!  Such a cute idea.  The kiddos made cutie bats with white hand-printed wings and googly eyes.  It was super chaotic, but the end result was adorable.  Earlier, during language time I pulled small groups to read mini books about bats.  The kids loved them!

I have been using lots of things that I have found through other bloggers sites and tpt.  I am super excited to use Mrs. Jump's Insect unit materials.  Such a wonderful and creative product!  If you are interested check her site out on tpt and locate Deana Jump.  I also found great sources for noun work.  My kids are loving the activities!  My favorite was having to list people, and the kiddos were all asking how to spell each others names.  Such sweeties!

Here is a pic of a wonderful buy at Fresh and Easy, a pumpkin
tree...very festive!

Other highlights for this weekend: my iphone has arrived and I am seeing Lord of the Rings in concert.  My husband is a geek, which translates into me being a geek :)

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Columbus Day

Today was a wonderful day!  I slept in, ran some quick errands, got a mani/pedi with one of my favorite people, got lunch with her, grocery shopping, and made dinner and dessert.

If you shop by budget you will understand.  I was going along doing my shopping and must have gotten carried away.  I definitely went over budget.  I kindly asked the check out girl to take stuff off.  She did, but was kinda rude.  Making comments in front of me.  I don't think I will be going back to that grocery store...I was trying it out to see if I liked it...nope!

Anyways, this past week was pretty great.  I am loving my class more and more, and am finding what works best for us.

We started science this week.  The first day we talked about the scientific method and how our five senses are used to help us every step of the way.  The week before I read The Five Senses by Aliki just to set us up for our science kick off.

I used Mrs. Carroll's idea again.  I have found that laminating my anchor charts helps me with time.  Next year I won't have to make another one!  The kids had a  sample to look at, and they were able to get as creative as they liked!  Their scientists turned out wonderfully.  The hair was the best!

It was a great week!  Back to it tomorrow!!!!

Wet N Wild

Our first full day rainy day, and I survived.  Luckily we are not trapped in our room together all day.  They still had art, recess, lunch, and p.e. out of the room.  If not I think I would have gone insane!

On a very random note I love my "Deliciously Wonderful Behavior Catalog" and so do my kids.  Their favorite pick so far has been lunch with me.  I love sitting in the lunch room with them to eat, and then they make their way upstairs for recess so I still have a little adult time.  I want to share it, but I don't know how...so if anyone can tell me how, please feel free!

Late on the Update

This last week was SUPER busy!  We had picture day on Wednesday, and then on Friday we had Hawaiian dress up day and In N Out family lunch day.  We were movin' non-stop, but it was so much fun!  I am loving my group of kiddos...they are helpful and loving.  They truly want to show Jesus' love to everyone.  They will clap after someone prays or for correct answers (or for just trying).  They will help to push each others chairs in or putting them up.  Can I just say they are precious and melt my heart.

This week I used Mrs. Carroll's peacemaker idea (if you haven't noticed I love following her).  I used this as an extension lesson for our social studies unit.  The kiddos really enjoyed David, and all of his antics.  I am not an artist, but if I have something to copy :) I can be successful!  So thank you Mrs. Carroll!!!  If I look at some of her amazing artistic posters I can create it too!
Of course I had to tie in a Bible verse, which helped things click a little bit more...

"Blessed are the peacemakers because they will be called sons of God"  -Matthew 5:9

When I read this and saw their faces they seemed to understand that being a peacemaker is more than me and them, but God.  I love making those connections.

The kiddos have also been enjoying centers.  Their favorite center is writing their spelling words in sand!  Yes, I am that person.  I trust them with sand.
Well, I am going to tune out for now and get back to some fun home projects...here is the latest one!
